An Inspirational Resource for Learning
The Education Programme is the driving force behind
many of the events and activities that take place at
Auchindrain.
One of the major strands currently underpinning the work
is the Crofting Connections Project - a three year
education programme designed to enable over 1,200
young people aged 5 to 16 living in remote rural
communities throughout the Highlands and Islands to
learn about crofting past, present and future, which is
also expected to deliver long-term and lasting impacts on
the curriculum within local schools.
Children from Inveraray, Furnace and Minard primary
Schools are the first three schools in Argyll to join the
Project. During the Homelife and Heritage event in
August 2010, representatives from the three schools
drew lots for a piece of land, which they are working and
use to grow crops over
the year. You may have
noticed the signs of
their activities in the
three scarecrows which
guard the plots.
We are very interested
in other schools
throughout Scotland to
come and get involved
in the work at
Auchindrain and to
learn how families lived
and worked in a
Scottish Township.
