Numbers & Names
Our buildings are all considered to be
accessioned museum objects and as such they
constitute the "Recognised Collection". The
convention with this is that a building must be
visible above the ground: buried archaeology
cannot for these purposes be counted. We now
know of the presence of five sites of buildings,
where nothing is visible except humps and
bumps in the landscape, which are individually
identified. To differentiate these clearly from
accessioned buildings which all have accession
numbers consisting of the international code for
Auchindrain (ACHDN) plus a single letter of the
alphabet, these have been allocated double-letter
codes: a double-letter code will NOT be prefixed
with ACHDN, because it does not refer to an
accessioned item.
The named buildings are as they were known by
the Township’s inhabitants. eg. Eddies house
(Eddie MacCallum), Martin’s House (Martin
Munro)
As our research continues we hope to discover
from historical records, the names by which other
buildings were known, but until then they will only
be known by their letters A, B, C, etc.
